Virginia Marie Vincent was born August 6, 1944 in Geneseo, IL the Daughter of Wayne and Vivian Larson Vincent. She was named after her mother's twin sister. Ginny was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1962, where she was voted Homecoming Queen her senior year. She shared many happy memories of growing up on a farm, high school friends and drag racing her car. After graduation, she worked at People's National Bank in Kewanee. On December 28, 1963, Ginny married her high school sweetheart, Richard Nelson, in Cambridge. The couple lived in Carbondale, Illinois and Ames, Iowa while Rich was attending college and then settled in rural Cambridge where they have lived ever since that time. Rich passed away on November 3, 2020.
Ginny was a homemaker and enjoyed her life in the country helping on the farm. She operated Gina's Boutique in Geneseo in the mid 1980's for several years. Later on, she assisted Rich with his furniture business, attending furniture shows throughout the U.S., including a special trip to South Africa. She especially loved the Southwest U.S., and collecting Native American jewelry. Ginny loved to entertain and was a very good cook. She enjoyed horses, birds, cats, dogs, and her flowers. She liked to watch westerns, especially including John Wayne, and true crime shows on TV. Her memberships included the Cambridge United Methodist Church and Valley View Club of Cambridge. Ginny's motto was "you have to roll with the flow" and she promised her friends that she would "never die in bed" (knee slap).
