Zerenna Brandt

October 24, 1914 — April 19, 2015

Zerenna Fidella Riley Brandt, 100 of Mineral died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Colonial Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Princeton, IL.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24th at Mineral United Methodist Church, Mineral, IL.  The Rev. Terry Lancaster officiating. Burial will be in Mineral Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.  Memorials may be made to Mineral United Methodist Church or Mineral Library.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield is assisting the family with arrangements.

Zerenna Fidella Riley was born October 24, 1914 in rural Mineral, IL the daughter of William and Grace (Johnson) Riley.  She graduated from Mineral High School in 1933.  Zerenna married Louis W. Brandt, Jr. on Sept 19, 1936 in Princeton, IL.  He died on May 10, 1995.  Zerenna and Louis farmed in rural Mineral.  Zerenna also worked as a cook at Mineral Grade School and then for many years at Annawan Schools.

Memberships include Mineral United Methodist Church and former member of Mineral Women’s Club, and the WSCS of the church.  She enjoyed taking her grandchildren bluegill fishing with cane poles to area strip mine lakes and coming home for a fish fry.  She was an avid reader and before she went into the nursing home, the Mineral librarian used to deliver books to her home.  She enjoyed bowling; but her favorite things to do were cooking and eating with her family, especially on Sundays around her dining room table.  Everyone always loved her chocolate pie and BBQ meatballs.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Lou and Ernie Salzmann, Mineral; and four grandchildren, Shena (Todd) Redmond, Westminster, CO, Renni (Dan) Smith, Ankeny, IA, Eran (Marci) Salzmann, Sheffield, and Tauni (Nick) Koning, Sheffield, IL.  She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren, Nash and Miles Redmond, Ryli and Alia Smith, Lance, Charlieana, Fletcher, Ashten and Paige Salzmann, Matthew and Nathan Paup, and Emri Koning.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a baby son, Larry, a baby daughter, Susan, two brothers, Ward and Verne Riley, and a sister Darlene Pierson.
