William A. “Bill” Rosenow, 72, of Sheffield went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8th at Sheffield United Methodist Church, Sheffield. Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will be in Sheffield Cemetery with Military Rites by Sheffield American Legion. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sheffield United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Bill Rosenow Memorial Fund. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bill was born December 5, 1944 in Kewanee, IL the son of Edward Edmund and Madelyn (Verschorre) Rosenow. He graduated from Western High School in 1963 and also graduated from Black Hawk College, East Campus, Kewanee. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 until 1967. On June 17, 1972 Bill married Mary Jo Hewitt in Sheffield. She survives.
Bill had been an Illinois State Trooper for many years before retiring and serving as acting Sherriff of Bureau County for a time. He also drove school bus for Bureau Valley School District for many years.
Bill was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church, H.F. Hortz American Legion Post 415, Sheffield, State Police Fraternal Lodge and the Princeton Moose Lodge. Bill had served as the Mayor of Sheffield for over 22 years where he actively participated in the water tower, sewer system, Avenue of Flags and the Community Hall Projects. Bill had also been a member of the Western School District board Bill loved Sheffield and was always there to do whatever he could to make it a great place to live. He was also active throughout Bureau County and the State of Illinois.
Bill’s love for Sheffield could only be overshadowed by his love for his wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; three daughters, Jill (Bronco) Farwell, San Marcos, CA, Jennifer (Troy) Smith, Normal, IL and Lisa Rosenow, Clearwater, FL; three grandchildren, Madilyn, Brady and Westin; brother, Edward (Deb) Rosenow, DeKalb, IL; sister, Carol (Henk) Tillema, Henderson, NV; sister-in-law, Penny Rosenow, DeKalb, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, John and Tom.
