W. Wongstrom

W. Grace Wongstrom, 92, formerly of Cambridge, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at East Moline Nursing and Rehab Center. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8th, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Rev. Steve Kettelkamp will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Winifred Grace Skelton was born July 6, 1919, in Joslin, Illinois, the daughter of Percy H. and Cora Cox Skelton. She was a 1937 graduate of Orion High School. Her marriage to C. Virgeen Wongstrom took place on December 3, 1938 in Davenport. He passed away on May 25, 2006. Grace and her husband operated the G & G Cleaners in Cambridge for seven years. She latter worked as a sales clerk at Seifert’s Women’s Clothing in Mt Pleasant, Iowa for several years.


Her former memberships include the Cambridge United Methodist Church, the Monmouth, IL and Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Churches, the Mt. Pleasant Country Club, the Cambridge PTA (past officer), and the Monmouth PTA (past officer). She enjoyed boating, golf (Ladies golf champion in Cambridge, Monmouth, and Mt. Pleasant), playing cards, being a 4-H and Cub Scout Leader, and gathering with friends and family. Grace loved playing games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Those surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Dick Vanderwoude, Madison, WI; Deborah and Donald Siebke, Rock Island; Paula and Gerald Vasilauskas, Milwaukee, WI; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Loretta Wongstrom, Albany; and Jay and Debby Wongstrom, Cleveland, TN; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Skelton, Moline. Her parents, her husband, two sisters, and five brothers preceded her in death.
