Viola I. Lehman, 101, of Austin, TX, formerly of Geneseo, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in Austin. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday January 19th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St. Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Christopher Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Geneseo.
Viola was born April 30, 1913 in rural Geneseo the daughter of Floyd and Pearl (Nelson) Hines. She attended Salem Grade School and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1930. Viola married Alvin Lehman of Kewanee on August 1, 1934. He died on November 25, 1982. The couple had farmed in the Geneseo area.
Viola was a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo, the Salem Society, and Grandmas Club. Her favorite activities included dancing, gardening, sewing, playing cards, and crossword puzzles.
In 1991, nine years after the death of her husband, Viola moved to Texas to be with her children and grandchildren, who all reside in the Austin area.
Viola was a farmer's wife and homemaker and a loving, devoted, amusing mother and grandmother. Her health caretakers spoke of their admiration for her strong, feisty personality and referred to her as an amazing woman.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill McClugage; grandchildren, Carolyn McClugage, Cindy and Jeff Foreman and Stephanie McClugage; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Foreman and Reid Thompson, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 48 years, daughter Marlene Lehman, brother Herb Hines, and Sisters Dorothy Workman and Gladys Peterson.
