Verna M. Lindquist, 93, formerly of Cambridge, died Monday, December 3, 2012, at Ebenezer Ridges Care Center, Burnsville, MN. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. January 19, 2013 at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate. Inurnment will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Lutheran Church.
Verna Marie Fransene was born February 4, 1919 in Arlington, Iowa, the daughter of C. Albert and Alice M. Peterson Fransene. The family moved to Cambridge in 1922, and Verna was educated in rural schools and Cambridge High School, graduating in 1936. She attended Western Illinois University in Macomb and taught in a rural school and first grade in Cambridge. Her marriage to Virgil Sundberg took place on February 14, 1943 in Cambridge. He died April 16, 1972. She married Dale Lindquist on August 7, 1976 in Cambridge. Dale passed away November 14, 2006.
During the 1970''s, Verna taught kindergarten in Bishop Hill and was librarian at the Cambridge Library, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, and she belonged to the WELCA group of the church. Verna was a former member of the Cambridge Women''s Club and volunteered at the Henry County Historical Society in Bishop Hill. She enjoyed reading, family research, and traveling with her husband to visit families in many areas of this country and in Sweden. Verna wrote a story of her life as a gift to future generations.
Those surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Maxine Sundberg, Stockton, CA, Philip and Marvel Sundberg, Eagan, MN, two daughters and a son-in-law, Anne Stone, Bettendorf, Julie and Bruce Boettcher, Eagan, MN, and a step-daughter and her husband, Virginia Gross and Frederick Hudson, Lincoln, NE. Other survivors include ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her parents and two brothers, Charles and Harlan Fransene preceded her in death.
