Theodore "Ted" Powell

September 13, 1943 — January 13, 2015

Theodore R. “Ted” Powell, 71, of Geneseo died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17 th at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo.  Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St. Geneseo.  Memorials may be made to Ted Powell Memorial Fund.

Ted was born Sept. 13, 1943 in Batavia, IL the son of Robert and June (Carlisle) Powell.  He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1961.  He served in the U. S. Army from 1965 to 1968 having served in Vietnam.  After the service he earned a bachelor degree.  His marriage to JoAnn Evans took place on July 30, 1967 in Geneseo.  She died on Oct. 17, 2006.  He later married Jerilyn Painter Wood on June 6, 2009 in Urbana, Ohio.  She survives.  Ted had worked at International Harvester Farmall Plant and then worked at the Rock Island Arsenal.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and the Geneseo Moose Lodge #990.  He was an avid and skilled woodworker, loving grandfather, and he especially like going to his grandchildren’s many activities.

Survivors include his wife Jerilyn; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Darian Miller, Geneseo; son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Shannon Powell, Chatam, IL; three grandchildren, Morgan and Ryan Miller, and Rachel Powell; three step-sons, Shawn Wood, Aaron Wood, and Chad Wood; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Sherry Powell, Sugar Grove, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, JoAnn.
