Suzanne Vinckel

Suzanne M. Vinckel, 73, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14th, at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate. Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Historical Society or the Cambridge Ambulance Service. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, is assisting with the arrangements.

Suzanne was born October 23, 1939 in Davenport, the daughter of James P. and Edith K. Olson Vinckel. She was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1957. Suzanne attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, and then went to Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She also spent a summer studying at Oxford University in England.


After completing her degree, she became a teacher. Suzanne was a history teacher and Dean of Students at Belvidere (IL) High School from 1963 to 1983. She was a world traveler, the business manager for Vinckel Properties, Inc., and an astute stock investor. Her memberships included the Crystal International Cruising Society and Zonta International.


Traveling around the world was something she and her mother greatly enjoyed. Suzanne also enjoyed photography and took many photos on their trips. Their travels included transatlantic flights on the Concorde. Among their travel favorites were the Orient Express, the Trans-Siberian Railroad, China, the Middle East, and staying in a Yurt home in the Gobi Desert of Outer Mongolia.


Survivors include cousins, Cindy Vinckel, Sun City, California, and Jane M. Vinckel, Merced, California. Her parents and an aunt, Evelyn Olson, preceded her in death.
