Shirley Brown

Cambridge, Illinois

Shirley A. Brown, 87, of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 10th at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodhull.  Vicar Laurie Hensley will officiate.  Burial will be in the Woodhull Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Service and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church.

Shirley Lee Anderson was born August 21, 1934, in Moline, the daughter of Kenneth and Mildred Swanson Anderson.  She was educated in Orion area schools and graduated from Orion High School in 1952.  Her marriage to G. Eugene Brown took place on April 16, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion.  Shirley was employed in Civil Service at the Rock Island Arsenal for three years and then worked as an administrative assistant at the Woodhull Land Development Corporation for 22 years before retiring.

Her memberships included the Bethany Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir for over 50 years, was president of the WELCA, and was on the church board.  Shirley sang at many weddings and funerals in the area for many years.  She was a member of Valley View Club, Cambridge, where she served on the Board of Directors for six years.  Shirley also served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Illinois Truck Stop Association and was a member of the AlWood Business Association.  She enjoyed her grandchildren, golfing, and traveling.

Those surviving are her husband, Gene, a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Jo and Randy Ryan, son and daughter-in-law, Michael E. and Michaelene Brown, all of Cambridge, grandchildren, Jason M. (Amanda) Brown, Austin Brown, and Halie Jo Ryan.  Other survivors include sisters-in-law, Joyce Martin, Cambridge, and JoAnn Wiegel, Mt Pleasant, IA.  Her parents, two sisters, Judy (Jim) Hancock and Bonita (Richard) Lindstrom preceded her in death
