Shirley A. Peterson, 87, of Sun City Center, Florida, formerly of Cambridge, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Sun City Senior Living in Sun City Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shirley Peterson Memorial Fund.
Shirley Ann Allison was born April 26, 1928 in Alpha, the daughter of William F. and Bertha A. Kelso Allison. She was educated in Galesburg schools and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946. Her marriage to Harry G. Peterson took place on November 16, 1946 in Galesburg. He died February 25, 2005.
She started working as a nurse's aide and then became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Shirley worked for nine years as a surgical aide at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg, then at Kewanee Hospital, and later at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo. She retired from Illini Hospital in Silvis after 24 years as the Director of Central Processing. Her hobbies included crocheting and playing cards.
Those surviving are a daughter, Susan Griggs, Valrico, FL, grandchildren and their spouses, Erik and Mindy Peterson, Alameda, CA, Kelby Peterson (fiancé- Alison Schriefer), Phoenix, AZ, Jason and Lori Griggs, New Port Richey, FL, and Jeffrey and Courtney Griggs, Plant City, FL. Other survivors include three great grandchildren, Kiley Griggs, Parker Griggs, and Clyde Peterson, and a sister, Elsie B. Gibson, Galesburg. Her parents, her husband, a son, Craig, three sisters, and four brothers preceded her in death.
