Sallie L. Legate, 86, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in the emergency room of Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Graveside committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15th, at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Ambulance Service or the Cambridge Food Pantry. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Sallie Lee Anderson was born July 3, 1936, in New Windsor, Illinois, the daughter of Harvey and Ellen Taylor Anderson. She attended grade school in rural New Windsor and rural Alexis and graduated from Alexis High School in 1955. Sallie lived in the rural Alexis area from 1946 until 1957. She and Winford Legate attended grade school and high school together and dated all through high school.
Her marriage to Winford C. Legate took place on July 26, 1957, in Alexis. He passed away on February 27, 2014. The couple lived in Port Byron, Hennepin, and Osco before moving to Cambridge in 1968. She worked at the Formfit Company in Monmouth for two years and for the Henry County Farm Bureau for 33 1/2 years.
Those surviving are a daughter, Wynne Legate, Cambridge, two sons, Mark Legate (Debra), Ballwin, MO, and David "Bruce" Legate, Cambridge, three grandchildren, Cory Legate (JoAnn), Cambridge, Renee Legate (Dale), Pekin, and Reva Legate, Davenport. Other survivors include ten great grandchildren and a sister, Karen Pitman, Galesburg. Her parents, her husband, and a sister, JoAnne, preceded her in death.
