Ruth Steffen

December 22, 1924 — May 21, 2014

Ruth A. Steffen, 89, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Unity Point Trinity, Rock Island. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 24 th , at the Cambridge Lutheran Church.  Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate.  Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge.  Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge.   Memorials may be made to Macular Degeneration Research or Cambridge Lutheran Church.

Ruth Johnson was born December 22, 1924 in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Albert Karl and Belva Myrtle (Roberts) Johnson.  She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1943.  Her marriage to Vernon Steffen took place on February 10, 1946 in the Cambridge Lutheran Parsonage.  He preceded her death on October 23, 2010.  She farmed with her husband in Osco and Cambridge area until 1978.  She was the head cook at Cambridge High School for 25 years.  Ruth was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church, the WELCA Ruth Unit, and Edwards Valley Card Club.  Her hobbies included crocheting, playing cards, volunteering at Hillcrest Home and the church, and gardening.

Those surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Robert Gushanas, Colona; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sherry Steffen, LaPorte City, IA; four grandsons, Erik  Gushanas, Davenport, IA, Cory (Amy) Gushanas, Noblesville, IN, Kale (Stacy) Steffen, Parrish, FL, and Brett (Kristin) Steffen, Palmento, FL; nine great grandchildren, Cameron, Kaden, Chase and Ella Steffen, Delanie Grace Gushanas, Shawna Sweetman, and Delaney,  Kennedy and Aiden  Gushanas.  Her parents; her husband; a brother, Carl; and two sisters, Edith Huffman and Donna Wexell preceded her in death. The family would like to thank Unity Point Hospice and especially the nurses and aides on 6 th and 4 th floor south for their love and care.
