Ruth Calhoun was born June 18, 1928 in Geneseo the daughter of S. Fredrick and Marjorie A. (Clark) Calhoun. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1946. Ruth married Donald R. Riggle on January 3, 1948 in Geneseo. He died on Sept. 23, 2002. Ruth graduated from Western Illinois University in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree in education. She started teaching 3rd grade in Alwood. She then taught various elementary grade levels in the Geneseo school system. Later she taught English as a second language and Citizenship at a Baptist Missionary School in Las Cruces, New Mexico
Ruth was a member of several educational associations in Illinois and New Mexico, Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Education Fraternity, First Congregational Church, Geneseo, Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary, and Geneseo Historical Society. She enjoyed reading and church work.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Don Taylor, West Des Moines, IA; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Riggle, Woodhull; a grandson, Erik Taylor, West Des Moines, a great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Taylor, West Des Moines; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Janice Calhoun, Geneseo; sister, Lois Fowler, Searcy, Arkansas and AFS daughter, Xiomara Vargas, San Jose, Costa Rica. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and brothers-in-law, Robert H. Riggle and Ronald Fowler.
