Ronald E. “RJ” Johnson, 78, of rural Cambridge died on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at UnityPoint Health, Trinity, Rock Island. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28th at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Rev. Stephen Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge with military rites by Cambridge American Legion. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, 212 E. Court St. Cambridge. Memorials may be made to Ronald Johnson Memorial Fund.
Ron was born March 15, 1940 in Moline the son of Chester A. and S. Edith (Young) Johnson. He graduated from Cambridge High School and served in the U. S. Navy from 1958 to 1963. On Feb. 4, 1961 he married Sonia Tucker in Moline. She survives. Ron had worked 10 years for Palmer Body Shop, Cambridge and then worked as a claims adjuster for Aetna Insurance until retiring in 2004. He had also owned and operated his own Body Shop, 4WD Repair in Cambridge for many years.
Memberships include the NRA and the Cambridge American Legion. Ron enjoyed 4 wheeling, restoring old Broncos, and anything train related including just going to watch them. For many years he took trips out west to hunt Prairie Dogs and he especially enjoyed being with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Sonia, son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Jean Johnson, Cambridge; daughter, Kendra Burnette, Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Johnson, Laurie Johnson, Blake Johnson, and Hannah Abney; great grandchildren, Annie Mae, Alexia, Jason, and Bentley; step grandchildren, Matthew and Luke Esser; and sisters, Alice Jones, Milan and Coral Rudsell, Rock Island. His parents, two sons, Brett and Jason Johnson and two brothers, Donald and Clyde preceded him in death.
