Roger Mckune

Roger P. McKune, 66, of Cambridge died Sunday, October 18, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 22nd, at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Rev. Dawn Keenan will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Memorials may be made to the Roger McKune Memorial Fund or the Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society.



Roger was born April 6, 1943 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Manuel J. and Virginia May Leffler McKune. He was educated in Washington area schools. His marriage to Karen Grant took place on April 2, 1967 in Kewanee. Roger served in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1993. He worked as a welder for Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg for 31 years, retiring in 2003.


His memberships include Giant Goose-Isaac Walton League Conservation Park, the Hagberg-Hamlin American Legion Post No. 45, Galva, and the Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990. His hobbies were fishing, camping, and dancing, and he loved playing Cribbage, spending time on the computer, trap shooting, gun safety, and music of all kinds.


Those surviving are his wife, Karen, a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Dianna McKune, Cambridge, a daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Mickey Johnson, Cambridge, and grandchildren, Shane Calhoun, Timothy John “T.J.” McKune, and Jason, Persephone Joyce “P.J., Keanna, and Duncan Hilligoss. Also surviving are four brothers and two sisters. His parents, one brother, and two sisters preceded him in death.
