Roger Martin

December 3, 1938 — July 16, 2016

Roger A. Martin, 77, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Cambridge, died Saturday, July 16, 2016, at his home.  Funeral services will be held  at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22nd, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services.  Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate.  Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, with military services by the Cambridge American Legion Post No. 417.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roger Martin Memorial Fund.

Roger Allen Martin was born December 3, 1938 in Cambridge, the son of Joseph Ernest and Wenda C. Setterberg Martin.  He was educated in Cambridge schools.  Roger join the U.S. Army and served from 1956 to 1958.  His marriage to Carolyn Horton took place in 1959.  They later divorced.  He married Sue Heck in September of 1973, and they divorced after several years of marriage, but remained friends.

He worked many years as a car salesman for several area dealerships including Brubaker Motors in Kewanee, and Warren Chevrolet and Mills Chevrolet, both in the Quad Cities.  Roger then worked for the Illinois DOT out of the Lynn Center facility until the mid 1970's when he and his brother, Gene, purchased the West Side Station in Cambridge.  He operated the station until 1986 when he moved to Austin.  His employment in Austin was as a security guard which he did until retiring.  Roger also had a pilot's license and had owned two planes several years ago, and he was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Those surviving are his children, Debra Martin, Austin, TX, Ronnie (Marilyn Gibbons) Martin, Cambridge, Adam Martin and Kelly Martin, both of Austin.  Other survivors included six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  His parents, a daughter, Theresa Lynn, two sisters, Janet Seabloom and Ruth Wexell, and three brothers, Keith, Gene, and Joe Martin, preceded him in death.
