Roberta McConnell Drescher, 94, of Aledo, formerly of Cambridge, died Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Aledo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.  Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, April 30th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services.  Rev. A memorial visitation will be from 10 to 12 prior to the service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Roberta Drescher Memorial Fund.

Roberta Loraine McConnell was born June 19, 1921 in Woodhull, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Norma Poppy McConnell.  She was raised and educated in and around Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1939.  Her class originated the "Viking" annual yearbook, and she was voted the best looking girl in the first class yearbook.   Her marriage to her high school sweetheart, William M. Drescher,  took place on August 22, 1941 in Osco.  He passed away November 5, 1992.

She was a substitute rural mail carrier in Osco and also worked at the Osco State Bank.  She and Bill formed Drescher Pontiac in Cambridge on February 2, 1957.  She attended General Motors Bookkeeping school every fall for 33 years by correspondence and was the only bookkeeper at Drescher Pontiac until retiring in 1990.

Roberta enjoyed all spectator sports, including the Cubs, the Bears, and the Bulls and also enjoyed watching her grandchildren in Michigan and Cambridge as they grew up.  She was proud all four of her grandchildren took piano lessons.  They were her life.

Her memberships include the Cambridge United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School, its UMW Wesleyan Group, and the Henry County Farm Bureau.  She and Bill were charter members of the Valley Country Club in Cambridge.

Those surviving are a daughter, Barbara Borg, Rapid City, SD, a son and daughter -in-law, Bill and Sandi Drescher, Jr., Viola, four grandchildren, Matthew (Brooke) Borg, Kara (Dr.Ken) Benjamin, Holly (Scott) Maruna, and Melody (Juston) Vermost.  Other survivors include nine great grandchildren and one due in July, a brother, Marvin McConnell, several cherished nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Jeanne Downing.  Her parents, her husband, two sisters, Geraldine Hewitt and Marian DeBackere, and a son-in-law, Dr. Larry Borg, preceded her in death.  Roberta's family wish to thank Aledo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the wonderful loving personal care given to our loved one for the last two years, and the Harbor Lights Hospice of Galesburg.
