Robert Rasmussen

Robert A. “Bob” Rasmussen, 86, of rural Geneseo died Friday, January 22, 2016 in Geneseo.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29th at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Geneseo.  Rev. Christopher Bushre will officiate.   Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Inurnment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Geneseo.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robert was born Sept. 25, 1929 in Moline, IL the son of Charles J. and Adella (Means) Rasmussen.  He graduated from Geneseo High School and served in the Illinois National Guard.  On Dec. 31, 1949 he married Janice Miller at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Geneseo.  She died on Aug. 30, 2013.

Bob had farmed most of his life in Osco Township, Henry County.  While farming he had also worked for Belinger John Deere in Geneseo and then in maintenance for Geneseo School District. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he also belonged to the Married Couples Club, and helped with counseling church youth group for many years.  Bob was also active on several committees at Palmetto Beach, Ft. Myers Florida in retirement.  He enjoyed square dancing and line dancing, fishing, swimming, boating and water skiing.  Bob also loved riding and training horses for harness racing.

Survivors include children, Randy (Karen) Rasmussen, Geneseo, Carmen (Steve) Sette, Geneseo and Neal (Nancy) Rasmussen, Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle) Rasmussen, Brady (Laurie) Rasmussen, Eric (Sarah) Rasmussen, Laura (Mark) Gromowsky and Rachel (Mark) Burghart; and ten great grandchildren, Sydney, Tyler, Nora, Davison, Olivia, Jack, Maggie, William, Samuel, and Mark III.   He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janice, grandson Asa Anderson, two sisters, Lilly Cherry, and Reta Rasmussen and an infant brother.
