Robert “Bob” Hulslander, 87, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 11 th , at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Cambridge. Father John Burns will officiate. Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, with a Parish Rosary at 7:00. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Ambulance Service or the Hillcrest Activity Fund.
Robert Spencer Hulslander was born August 2, 1927 in Atkinson, the son of Frederick “Bob” and Florence DeRoo Hulslander. He was educated in the Atkinson school. His marriage to Gertrude Hast took place on July 12, 1947 in Atkinson. She passed away May 29, 2002. The couple lived and farmed in rural Cambridge for many years. Bob also worked at the Henry County Highway Department for over 23 years, retiring in 1994.
Since Bob’s favorite hobby was working, he was then employed part time at Wayne’s Super Value and continued when it became the Cambridge Jack and Jill. He stayed there until it closed and then volunteered at Hillcrest Home as long as he was able. Bob was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and a former member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge and the Flemish American Club in Kewanee. In his earlier years, he and his wife loved to dance.
Those surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Beckie and Randy Boberg, Cambridge, a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Teresa Hulslander, Colona. Other survivors include grandchildren and spouses, Thad and Shelley Boberg, Grand Prairie, TX, Nathan and Lisa Boberg, Gilbert, AZ, Justin and Erin Boberg, Plainfield, IL, Jason Myer, St. Louis, MO, Crystal Donahue, Coal Valley, and six great grandchildren. His parents, his wife, and a sister preceded him in death.
