Robert M. Bestor, 97, of rural East Moline died on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St., Geneseo. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 2208 E. 52nd Suite B, Davenport, IA 52807
Robert was born on July 18, 1918 in Geneseo, IL, the son of Clyde and Verna (Hornecker) Bestor. He had graduated from Geneseo High School and attended Culver-Stockton College, Canton, MO. He served as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S Marine Corp. in the South Pacific during WW II. He married Irene Morgan on Oct 21, 1945 in Pasadena, CA. She died on April 14, 2000.
Bob along with his brother Stan owned and operated many businesses in and around Geneseo, including Bestor Brothers, an automotive dealership, Geneseo Hotel where they opened the Cellar Restaurant. They also developed many businesses on all four corners of the Geneseo exit of Interstate 80 including the Deck Gas & Oil, Deck Restaurant and Motel among others.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, and working.
Survivors include son, Greg Bestor, Cathedral City, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jack Morgan, East Moline; a granddaughter, Kami Ramsgate, Flagstaff, AZ, two great grandsons, Wyatt and Chase and three step grandchildren, Russell Morgan, Jackie Lorman, and Thomas Morgan, and numerous step great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Jeffrey, and a brother, Stan.
