Rita A. McDoniel, 88, of East Moline, formerly of Chicago, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Trinity Rock Island. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 11th, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, Oak Lawn, IL. Burial will be in Fairmont-Willow Hills Memorial Park, Willow Springs, IL. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Road, Chicago. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Therapy Center, 1504 – 13th Ave., Moline, IL 61265.

Rita Adeline Halm was born September 14, 1922 in Chicago, the daughter of Ambrose J. and Ida M. Kehoe Halm. She was educated in Chicago schools. Her marriage to George McDoniel took place on April 27, 1946 at St. Adrian’s Catholic Church in Chicago. He passed away on July 31, 1973. Rita was a sales consultant in women’s fashions for many years in the Chicago area. She also worked as a secretary for WIC at the Daley Center, Chicago.


She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline. Rita enjoyed working crossword puzzles and other word games. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.


Those surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Barbara McDoniel, Kirkwood, MO, George and Margaret McDoniel, Moline, and David and Maureen McDoniel, Evergreen Park, IL. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Rose Halm, Chicago, and many loving and loved nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband, her brothers, Edward and Robert Halm, preceded her in death.
