Richard L. Nilsson, 93, of rural Osco, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, February 24th, at the Osco Community Church. Rev. Paul Henschel will officiate. Burial will be in the Andover Township Cemetery with military services. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:00 Noon Wednesday, prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Osco Church. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Richard LaVerne Nilsson was born July 21, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Sven A. and Edna A. Rehn Nilsson. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945 and served in the Army of Occupation in Japan following World War II. He attended Moline Community College from 1948 to 1949. His marriage to Margaret J. Carlson took place on December 4, 1949 in her parent's home in rural Osco.
He has farmed and been a steward of Land in Section 21 of Osco Township since 1950. Dick was a founding member of the Henry County Pork Producers. His memberships include the Henry County Farm Bureau and the Osco Community Church where he has been an active member since his marriage. He enjoyed traveling and reading. Dick was a proud father and grandfather and followed his grandchildren's many activities.
Those surviving are his wife, Margaret, three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Sue and James Billings, East Moline, Diana and Fred Wallace, Geneseo, JoAnn and Mike Berg, Coal Valley, a son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Nilsson, Geneseo, six grandsons, six granddaughters, and 18 great grandchildren. His parents, a sister, Audrey Lindsey, and a brother, Glenn Nilsson, preceded him in death.
