Paul Maddy

Paul G. Maddy, 58, of Morrison, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Procter Hospital, Peoria. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 17th at First United Church of Christ, Sheffield. Rev. Jane Courtright and Rev. Kent Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Sheffield Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12 to 2:30 p.m. at the church. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Paul was born November 17, 1952 in Spring Valley, IL, the son of W. Gordon and Leda (Askren) Maddy. He was educated in Sheffield area schools and graduated from Western High School in 1972. Paul served in the U.S. Marines in Okinawa, Japan from 1974 to 1976. He had worked as a truck driver for Air Products in LaSalle prior to his spinal cord injury in 1980.

Paul was a member of the American Legion and the Paralyzed Veterans of America. He had been a board member of the Northeast Illinois Center for Independent Living and was the board president from July 1995 to mid 2001. He was a faithful listener of James McDonald and John Hagee on radio and television. Paul was a man of strong faith and a staunch Republican.

Survivors include ten brothers and sisters, Rebecca Maddy, Chicago, IL, Vivian (Bob) Roffey, Peoria, IL, Wayne (Sandra) Maddy, Massilon, OH, Dale Maddy, Lodi, WI, Barb (Lee) Carper, Pinceton, IL, John (Marvel) Maddy, Ghent, KY, Mary (Merwyn) Newman, Kewanee, IL, Alice Maddy, Princeton, IL, Clair (Kent) Cook, Peoria, IL, and Joel Maddy, Peoria, IL; sixteen nieces and nephews, Amber Reatherford, Mike Kaufman, Tammy Poppen, Tim Kaufman, Jessica Parsons, Tina Bryant, Angie May, Tracey Grimmer, Brian Maddy, Renae Maddy, Ben Newman, Sara Johnson, Emmalea Pistole, John Paul Maddy, Chastity Cook, and Cherity Kemp; great nieces and nephews, Chase and Jarod Reatherford, Jacob, Cassandra, Beau, and Nicole Kaufman, Maegen Beck and Aaron Sparks, Jeremiah-Michael Poppen, Elli, Paige, Margaret, and Peter Kaufman, Gwynevire Parson, Adam and Ashley May, Jenna and Kenley Grimmer, Jade and Logan Davis, Briyana Maddy, Chandler and Reegan Shoemaker, Cohan and Liam Newman, and Garrett, Ryder, and Emma Pistole; and one great, great niece, Kaedence Beck. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry.
