Nita Mae Johnson, 94, formerly of Cambridge, died Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care, Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 15th, at the Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover. Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial will be at the Andover Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to the Augustana Lutheran Church.

Nita Mae Anderson was born May 29, 1919 in Western Township, Henry County, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence M. and Florence Sandahl Anderson. She graduated from Orion High School in 1937. Her marriage to G. Herbert Johnson was celebrated on March 23, 1940 in Ophiem. He passed away December 23, 2006.

Herb and Nita spent many years on the family farm near Lynn Center. Nita was an active member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Cambridge Women''s Club. She enjoyed serving at church activities and volunteering for the Andover Historical Society. Nita was a devoted wife and mother who loved to bake and tend her garden. When her husband became active in Henry County government, they moved to Cambridge in 1977, where they later retired.

Those surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Florence Ellen and Tom White, Geneseo, Jerelyn Ann Forman, Rockford, and a son, George Harland Johnson, Davenport. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Dawn (Eugene) Ridge, Chicago, Julie (Michael) Gardner, Dallas, TX, Regan Grusy (Anders Bergstrom), Brooklyn, NY, Jana Grusy, Rockford, George Heath Johnson, DeKalb, and Evan (Vanessa) Johnson, Rock Island, and two great grandchildren, Olivia Grusy, Rockford, and Graham Gardner, Dallas. Her parents, her husband, and a sister, Jean Gould, preceded her in death.
