Merwyn A. Dergins, Sr., 61, of Lincoln, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018, in the emergency room of Northwest Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, after becoming ill at his worksite. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 29th, at St. Peter's Evangelical Church in Kewanee. His sister, Dawn Baird, will officiate. A private interment of cremains will take place at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, prior to the memorial service. There will be no visitation. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Merwyn Andrew Harris Dergins was born January 28, 1957 in Kewanee, the son of Merwyn and June Charlett Dergins. He attended Kewanee, IL and Apache Junction, AZ High Schools, and he obtained his diploma from Dover, OH. His marriage to Melanie Fortney took place on September 21, 1976 in Dover, OH. They later divorced.
He was a traveling Master Plumber for 40+ years. Merwyn enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, baseball, NASCAR, and spending time with his family.
Those surviving are four sons, Merwyn (Crystal) Dergins, Jr., Queen Creek, AZ, Chad (Catherine) Dergins, Columbus, OH, Nathan Dergins, Uhrichsville, OH, Travis (Sarah) Dergins, Ahwatukee, AZ, grandchildren, who he cherished, Matthew, Joshua, Caitlyn, Miles, and a new baby on the way. Other survivors include sisters, Dawn Baird, Vancouver, WA, and Holly Caldwell, Lincoln, IL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents and grandparents preceded him in death.
