Melba D. Wert, 84, of Geneseo died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Royal Oaks Health Care Center, Kewanee, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 18th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 East Park St., Geneseo. Rev. Lou Zuck will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Melba Wert Memorial Fund.
Melba Darlene Wert was born March 1, 1926, on the family farm north of Geneseo on Route 82, the daughter of Ira Alvin and Martha Dora (Nitz) Wert. She was educated in Jackson and South schools in rural Geneseo. She loved taking care of children and took care of them in her home. She was often seen riding her bicycle when she delivered the Moline Dispatch around Geneseo. Melba loved to play bingo.
Survivors include a sister, Betty Haars, Geneseo; three nephews, Duane (Lynne) Haars, Geneseo, Gary (Sharon) Haars, Sanford, FL, and Steven (Jodi) Haars, Geneseo; and several great and great, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and one great nephew.
