Maurice V. Matson, 84, of Geneseo died Friday, June 15, 2012 at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 18th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to Geneseo Izaak Walton League.
Maurice was born November 9, 1927 in rural Geneseo, IL the son of Maurice A. and Jacqueline (Jaques) Matson. Maurice attended Galva High School and then served in U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Maurice married Norma Martin on December 20, 1947 in Kewanee. She died on June 14, 1987. He later married Betty (Robinson) Robertson in April 1991. She survives. Maurice had worked at I.H. Farmall, Rock Island for 30 years before retiring. He loved to fish, go antiquing, garden, play cribbage, read and watch tv. He especially loved the Hennepin Canal.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, three daughters, Adrienne Corrice, Moline, Maureen (Ted) Bohannon, Belton, MO, and Jacqueline (Paul) Remillard, Hampshire, IL; three grandchildren, Chris (Patty) Corrice, Carolyn Goodbred, and Lynn (Phil) Hudson, and a great grandson, Max Corrice. Also surviving are two step-sons, Dennis and David Robertson, both of Georgia, a step grandson, and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
