Matthew Sneyd

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.  Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Matthew.

Matthew R. “Matt” Sneyd, was born on February 29, 1952 in San Diego, CA to parents Matthew Johnson Sneyd and Barbara (LaMar) Sneyd.  He was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism.  He was confirmed in the Christian faith and was fed the life-giving body and blood of Jesus.  He was united in holy marriage to Becky DeGeal on July 28, 1990 and blessed with 25 years of married life together.  God also blessed him with the gift of children, Megan Grubbs, and Sara Jane Sneyd.  On Saturday, September 19, 2015, God called Matt home to heaven.

Funeral services for Matt will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo.  Rev. Stephen Mueller will officiate.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Matt had worked for Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, for U.S. House of Representatives, in Washington, DC, for the Mayor of Springfield, IL and had been working at Home Depot, Bettendorf, IA and Geneseo Brewing Company at the time of his passing.  He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon.  He had been active in GPAC, was an avid supporter of Music and Arts, and he loved woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Becky, daughters, Megan, Decatur, IL and Sara Jane, attending Illinois State University, and a sister, Lou Ann Magner, Williamsport, IN.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord.  We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother, Matt.
