Mary M. Dobbels, 91, of rural Geneseo, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, 225 E. Park St., Geneseo. Private burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Geneseo Humane Society.
Mary Mae VanHerzeele was born Aug. 30, 1925 in Faith, South Dakota the daughter of Louis and Sophie (VanHeireweghe) VanHerzeele. The family moved to the family farm east of Geneseo when Mary was two years old and she lived and operated the family farm all of her life. Mary had married Robert Dobbels on April 24, 1948 in Geneseo. Besides farming Mary had also been a rural mail carrier for the Geneseo Post Office. She was of the catholic faith and loved horses and sheep and all animals.
Survivors include three daughters Barb (Larry) Walters, Cindy Deakin, and Pam (Bob) Olson, all of Geneseo; four grandchildren, Brad Walters, Adam Olson, Lisa (Roger) Woolums and Kaler Deakin; great granddaughter, Ellianna Woolums; and special nephew, Wayne Schefsky. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Al VanHeireweghe, sister, Clara Schefsky, and grandson, Chad Olson.
