Mary C. Anderson, 68, of rural Cambridge, died Thursday, November 8, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. A private graveside committal service will be held on Monday, November 12th, at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. A Celebration of Life service will be at a later date in Bishop Hill. There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to the OSF Hospice in Galesburg. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Mary Catherine Anderson was born October 11, 1950, in Moline, the daughter of Milton F. and Aylene M. Walsh Anderson. She was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1968. Mary attended the University of Illinois in Champagne for two years before moving to California. She was a medical clerk and union shop steward at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California for 25 years. There she met her future husband, Lew Maggiora, and they were married on March 1, 1987.
In the 1970's, Mary was a "Founding Mother" of the clerical union for all of Alameda County and was president of the union in the 1980's. Her interests were playing Bridge, gardening, mowing, sale shopping, and being a caregiver for family and friends. She danced with the Jane Brown Theatre of Classical and Modern Ballet in Oakland for 20 years. Mary was a member and past president of the Cambridge Social Hour Club and a former member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church.
Those surviving are her husband, Lewis Maggiora, Cambridge, a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Richard Hansen, Kankakee, IL, a niece, a nephew, five great nieces and great nephews, and her cat, Summer. Her parents and a brother, Michael Anderson, preceded her in death.
