Marlene Ross, 89, of Geneseo died on March 11, 2018 at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 16th at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Christopher Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Geneseo, with an Eastern Star Service being held at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or First United Methodist Church, Geneseo.
O. Marlene Mutchler was born January 25, 1929 in Tarkio, Missouri, the daughter of Floyd E. and Sadie G. (Clark) Mutchler. She graduated from Shenandoah High School, Iowa, and Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. Marlene was united in marriage to Lowell “Pete” Ross on September 10, 1950 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2004.
Marlene was a bookkeeper at Farmer’s National Bank for 18 years before retiring in 1997. She also did the bookkeeping for her husband’s business, Pete’s Shell, and Ross’ Pee-Wee Service. She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Order of Eastern Star as a Past Matron and the secretary for over 28 years.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca (Daniel Schmidgall) Keim, Arvada, CO, Ruth Ross, Libertyville, IL, and Cheryl (Steve) Luehring, Geneseo; and a son, Howard (Amy) Ross, Oquawka, IL; ten grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Erickson, Essex, IA, Jane Bragg, Maryville, MO, and Imogene Moore, Tarkio, MO; and many others who called her “mom” and “grandma”. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, four sisters, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and a great granddaughter.
