Marlene Palmer, 77, of Cambridge, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, in the emergency room of Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Private family committal services will be held Friday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Marlene Palmer Memorial Fund.
Marlene Kespohl was born September 11, 1937, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Roy and Clara Patterson Kespohl. She was educated in Port Byron schools and graduated from Port Byron High School in 1956. Her marriage to Virgil J. Palmer took place on October 27, 1956 in Port Byron. He died July 8, 2010. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Hillcrest Home and later at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Marlene had worked more recently as a greeter at the Geneseo Walmart. She was a volunteer for the Cambridge Senior Citizens meals and was an avid bowler.
Those surviving are a daughter, Cynthia (Allen Harding) Legate, Kewanee, a son, Kevin (Terrie) Palmer, Moline, three grandchildren, Renee and Reva Legate, and Sam Palmer, and two great grandchildren, Remy Legate and Maxwell Hoteling. Other survivors include a sister, Georgine Stern, Lincoln, NE, and two brothers, Tom Kespohl, East Moline, and Clifford Kespohl, Silvis. Her parents, her husband, two sons, Timothy and Darrell Palmer, twin brother, Milton Kespohl, and a sister, Kay Mathis, preceded her in death.
