Mark H. Maertens

Mark H. Maertens, affectionately known as “Uncle Mark, or Tractor Man” 66, of Cambridge, formerly of Bishop Hill died at his home on Saturday, June 3^rd, 2023.  Cremation rites have been accorded and memorial service will be held on July 8th at 11:30 a.m. in the Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge. Rev. Melinda Bern will officiate.  Visitation will be from 10 to time of service on July 8th at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to his family.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.

Mark was born May 26, 1957 in Kewanee, IL the son of Emiel and Darlene (Hepner) Maertens.  He graduated from Galva High School in 1976.  Mark had worked for Pearson Brothers in Galva, the Galva Foundry, and Kaiser Farms.  Mark had farmed for many years as well as his other work.  He was a member of Maranatha Chapel, Alpha, IL.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, solitaire, dice games, riding a tractor and telling jokes.  He loved to make people laugh.  He always said his slice of heaven on earth was on the South Edwards River.  He had a heart of gold.

Survivors include his daughter, Amanda (Corey) Coleman, Mount Pleasant, IA; nephews, Justin “Tank” (Amanda) Johnson, Cambridge and Dustin Johnson, Bishop Hill and his great niece and great nephew, Annie Mae Johnson and Jason “Stub” Johnson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and sister, Denise Johnson.
