Marilyn Moore

May 28, 1927 — October 25, 2016

Marilyn Jean Moore, 89 of Sheffield passed away October 25th, 2016 in Princeton.

Born May 28th, 1927 in Bureau County to Alvy and Frances (Lambert) Roush Sr., she married Wayne Moore on April 2nd, 1953, in Mount Carroll, Illinois.

Marilyn grew up on a farm outside New Bedford. She attended the country schools known as Pleasant Ridge and Hunts Bend and later graduated from Manlius High School in 1944. In school Marilyn served as a cheerleader and Drum Majorette. She loved to play sports (baseball) and relished her reputation as a “tomboy”.

Due to a teacher shortage, she was offered a job right out of high school and received an emergency teaching certificate in 1945. She taught grades 1 through 8 in a series of one room schoolhouses out in the country. It was there she fell in love with education, and when it became apparent she needed to advance her education to pursue her passion, she commuted by train to Chicago to get her teaching degree. In 1964 she graduated from Pestalozzi Froebel Teaching College in Chicago. She taught kindergarten in Sheffield for many years enlightening generations until her retirement in 1979.

Marilyn was blessed with three beloved children, Skip (Virginia) Moore of Dallas, Texas, Denise (Roger) Bolin of Buda, and Lori Moore of North Little Rock Arkansas; three grandchildren, Dustin Marquis of Brecksville, Ohio, Jason (Stephanie) Marquis of Princeton, and Grant Moore of Orange, California; and two great-grandchildren, Marissa Jean, and Calvin Wayne Marquis of Princeton.

She was an active member of the First United Church of Christ in Sheffield. She served as a Deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. Marilyn was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ for her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Donald Roush, Alvy Roush and Gary Roush; and three sisters Dorothy Swanson, Lila Oloffson and Blanche Roush. She is survived by her husband Wayne, sister-in-law Barbara Roush and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11:00am Saturday, October 29th, at First United Church of Christ in Sheffield. Funeral services will follow the visitation with Rev. Jonathan Pia and Rev. Ross Wyman officiating. Burial will take place at Sheffield Cemetery; friends and family welcome.
