Marie Rogel

November 28, 1920 — September 3, 2014

Marie E. Rogel, 93, of Geneseo, formerly of Peoria, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo.  A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 10 th , at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria.   Father Martin Mwongyera will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, in LaSalle, IL.   Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Marie Elizabeth Abramson was born November 28, 1920 in Alhambra, Illinois, the daughter of John C. and Ida M. Dahlgren Blixt Abramson.  She was educated in Cambridge area schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1937.  Marie also graduated as a Registered Nurse from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Peoria, in 1942.  Her marriage to Leo J. Rogel took place on March 3, 1946 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria.  He passed away on April 12, 1998.

She worked at Methodist Hospital as a supervisor of surgery, then for Dr. Sargeant Howard and later for Dr. Morris Cohen.  Her memberships include the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing Alumni and St. Mary’s Cathedral.  She enjoyed golf, knitting, cooking, travel, and sewing.  In 2005, Marie received the Pere Marquette Award from the Cathedral for her service to the church.

Those surviving are a sister, Mildred Klavon, Geneseo, and several nieces and nephews including Nancy Boelens, Moline, and Michael Klavon, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
