Marie Nelson

Marie H. "Teen" Nelson, 94, of Cambridge, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26th, at the Cambridge Lutheran Church.  Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate.  Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, with military services by the Cambridge American Legion Post No. 417.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Cambridge Chapel of   Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services.  Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Lutheran Church, the Juvenile Diabetes Association, or the Cambridge American Legion.

Marie Hortense Reed was born August 11, 1922 in Cambridge Township, Henry County, Illinois, the daughter of J. Avery and Ruth McIntosh Reed.  She was educated in Cambridge area schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940.  Marie then attended St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Davenport, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1943.  She served as a nurse in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Her marriage to Carl A. M. Nelson took place on June 30, 1949 in Cambridge.  He passed away February 8, 1978.

She was employed as an industrial nurse at the International Harvester Plant in East Moline and left there to raise her family.  Marie returned to work in 1972 and remained there until retiring.  Her memberships include the Cambridge Lutheran Church, the WELCA unit of the church, the Henry County Farm Bureau, and the Cambridge American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, baking, gardening, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Those surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Dr. Roy Wakefield, Minden, NE, Janet and Dr. George Schreppler, Townsend, DE, and Ellen and Dr. Adrian Meyer, Beloit, KS, and two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cristine Nelson, and Richard and Sevgi Nelson, all of Cambridge.  Other survivors include 13  grandchildren, Chad (Jen) Nelson, Eric (Amy) Nelson, Ashley (Brian) Parrish, Marisa (Gabe) Johnson, Michael (Tiffany) Schreppler, Nathan (Virginia) Schreppler, Derek, Ryan, and Amy Wakefield, Megan Meyer, Alexis (Adam) Stortz, Joe and Carlie Nelson,  three step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and a brother, Russell (Carol) Reed, Cambridge.  Her parents, her husband, two sisters, Donna Nelson and Marjorie Mayes, two brothers, James and John Reed, and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Nelson, preceded her in death.
