Margaret Emmerson

Margaret M. Emmerson, 91, of Sheffield went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Liberty Village, Princeton, IL. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Father Mark Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield. A parish rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sheffield Rescue Unit or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Margaret Lauwagie was born March 4, 1921 in Sheffield the daughter of Honore and Leontine (DeVos) Lauwagie. She married Roger Emmerson on Aug. 8, 1942 in Annawan. He died on Oct. 20, 2000. Margaret farmed with her husband for 38 years in the Sheffield area until retiring in 1985.


Memberships include St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield and the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church. She was also a member of Clark-Carrington Post 1051 American Legion Auxiliary, Mineral. Margaret had been a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drives and the Sheffield Share Food Distribution. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and a variety of games. Her greatest joys were her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jane and David Bitting, Pekin, IL; sons and daughter-in-law, Roger, Emmerson, Jr. Sheffield and Dean and Sharon Emmerson, Noblesville, IN; seven grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Peter and Cyriel Lauwagie and a daughter-in-law, Beverly.
