Mabel VanDeRostyne, 96, of Annawan, died Friday, February 11, 2011, at Woodridge Assisted Living, Geneseo. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 17th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan. Father Sebastian Tumusiime will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Annawan. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Annawan Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Annawan-Alba Fire Department or the Woodridge Activity Department.

Mabel VerBaker was born August 31, 1914 in Atkinson Township, Henry County, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Emma Croegaert VerBaker. She was educated in Annawan area schools. Her marriage to Herman VanDeRostyne took place on December 30, 1936 in Annawan. He passed away on November 20, 1998. Mabel and her husband farmed in the Annawan area. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Mabel enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and baking cookies.


Those surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Robert DeSchepper, Annawan, a granddaughter, Julie (Gary) Frail, Toulon, IL, grandsons, Mike (Laurie) DeSchepper, Cortland, IL, Doug (Chris) DeSchepper, Davis, IL, Rich (Beth) DeSchepper, Altona, IL, Todd (Jodie) DeSchepper, Kewanee. Other survivors include ten great grandchildren, Larissa (Ben) Johnson, Kelsey, Sarah, Kaitlyn, Kyra, Emily, Andrew, Kiley, and Abigail DeSchepper, Olivia Frail, and a great great grandson, Benny Johnson. Her parents, her husband, a brother, Charles VerBaker, and a sister, Eunice Roman preceded her in death.
