Leslie E. Conrad, 85, of rural Lynn Center, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25th, at the Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover. Rev. Al Beck will officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, with Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Augustana Lutheran Church or Hillcrest Home.



Leslie was born April 26, 1924 in Hillsdale, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Clara Brandt Conrad. The family moved to the Lynn Center area in 1936 and Les graduated from Orion High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His marriage to Mary Graf took place on September 2, 1977 in Andover. She died on July 10, 2005. Les was in the farming and trucking business in his earlier years and then worked for the State of Illinois in highway maintenance until retiring in August of 1991.


His memberships include the Augustana Lutheran Church, the Orion American Legion Post 255 where he was a 50 year member, the Sherman Lodge No. 535, AF & AM, Orion, where he was also a 50 year member, the Moline Consistory, and the Kaaba Shrine, Davenport, where he had been an Ambassador at Large. Les was a former member of the VFW Post 143 in Orion and was a member of the Davenport Amateur Radio Club. His call letters were N09X. He was also a member of the “Old Bull Shipper’s Association.


Those surviving are a daughter and her friend, Sharon McFarlin and Tom Durbin, East Moline, a son and his wife, Joel and Vickie Conrad, Geneseo, five grandchildren, James Coulter, Jennifer Moulton, Joanne Barrera, Noah Conrad, and Clayton Conrad. Other survivors include a step granddaughter, Julie Wruck, a step grandson, Gary Soderstrom, two great grandchildren, and a step great grandchild. His parents and his wife preceded him in death.
