Leonard H. "Whis" Palmer, 97, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2nd, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services. A private inurnment will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Ambulance Service or Valley View Club.
Leonard Howard Palmer was born October 27, 1924 in Munson Township, Henry County, the son of John A. and Mary Caroline "Marie" Thies Palmer. He was educated in Cambridge area schools. Leonard served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. His marriage to Fern Margaret Robinson took place on May 31, 1947 in Cambridge. She passed away on November 2, 2009. Leonard was the owner operator of Robbie's Service Station in Cambridge from 1946 until retiring in 1987.
His memberships included the Cambridge United Methodist Church, where he had served on the church board, and the former Cambridge American Legion Post No. 417. He was a lifetime member of the Cambridge Lodge No. 49, A.F. & A. M. and a charter member of Valley View Club, Cambridge. Whis enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada and especially enjoyed teaching his grandson how to fish.
Those surviving are a daughter, Barbara Palmer, and a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lisa Palmer, all of Cambridge, a grandson, Brayton Palmer, La Crosse, Wisconsin, a sister, Carol Kooi, Kewanee, and a special niece and her husband, Patricia and Terry Reed, Cambridge. His wife, a sister, Mildred Adelman, and two brothers, Eldon Palmer, and Arley John Palmer, preceded him in death.
