Kenneth L. Wongstrom, 97, of Hopewell, IL, formerly of Geneseo, died Saturday, December 17, 2011, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 7, 2012, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Inurnment will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Kenneth was born June 23, 1914 in Rock Island, the son of C. Elmer and Hannah B. Anderson Wongstrom. He attended Cambridge High School and then received vocational training in Silvis as a product engineer. His marriage to Dora Haurberg took place in 1933. He later married Marjorie Newman on July 27, 1948 in Cambridge. She died March 18, 2011. Ken worked for the International Harvester Plant in East Moline for 41 years, retiring in 1975. He also farmed for many years in the area. His memberships include the United Methodist Church, Port Byron, Moose Lodge No. 990, Geneseo, and the Viking Club, Moline. His hobby was woodworking.
Those surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Gary Nyboer, Hopewell, Bonnie K. Young, Austin, TX, Jeanna M. and Alan Curtis, Rockford, IL, and Greta J. and Paul Erickson, Rockford. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. His parents, his wife, grandsons, Shane and Kent, and a brother, Gene, preceded him in death
