Kathryn Young

Kathryn L. Young, 88, of Kewanee, formerly of Galva, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 21, at the Galva Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 22. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church in Galva.

Kathryn Copeland was born August 31, 1922 in Roseville, the daughter of Mark and Ora (Blevins) Copeland. She was educated in Galva schools. She married Guy Swan in 1938. He passed away in 1975. She married Jerry Young in 1976. Kathryn was a Licensed Practical Nurse and cared for the elderly in her home. She opened Kewanee Care as an Administrator in the early 1970’s. She sang with Kitty Kelly on the Hello Galva radio show and also on WLS radio when she was a teenager. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Galva.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Pat (Larry) Ericson, Galesburg; Vickie (Lou) Espada, Galva; and Emmy (Art) Bernal, Apache Junction, AZ; a special cousin Annaree (Robert) Ogle, Bushnell; 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, her husband, Guy LaVern Swan, a daughter, Kay Maertens, a son, David Swan, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
