Katharine M. Hewitt, 82, of Sheffield, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Colonial Hall Nursing Center, Princeton, IL. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 12th, at the Sheffield Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. Rev. Jane Courtright will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sheffield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Katharine Hewitt Memorial Fund.

Katharine Spratt was born January 19, 1929 in Sheffield, the daughter of William and Ollie Steel Spratt. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1946. Her marriage to Harvey Hewitt took place on October 17, 1948 in Sheffield. He died October 13, 2008.


Mrs. Hewitt worked for the Peoples National Bank in Kewanee from 1959 until retiring in 1994. She attended the Sheffield United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School. Her memberships included the Sheffield American Legion Auxiliary. Katharine helped with Sheffield Pride Flowers on Main Street. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, playing cards, coffee with friends, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She volunteered at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle.


Those surviving are her three children and their spouses, Jim and Willy Hewitt, Sterling, IL, Mary Jo and Bill Rosenow, Sheffield, Tim and Robin Hewitt, Sheffield, eight grandchildren, Jill Rosenow, Jennifer Smith, Lisa Rosenow, Rhea Noel, Heather Meyer, Matt Hewitt, Cole Hewitt, and Austin Hewitt. Other survivors include eight great grandchildren, a sister, Mary (Tom) Anderson, Sheffield, a sister-in-law, Blanche Hewitt, Sheffield, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband, and a sister, Ollie Stier, preceded her in death.
