Karen Braman

November 21, 1940 — July 1, 2010



Karen M. Braman, 69, of Zephyrhills, FL, formerly of Geneseo went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 1, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6th at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Rev. Dr. John Wohlrabe will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St. Geneseo and one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church Sunday School.



Karen Melody was born November 21, 1940 in Geneseo the daughter of Roy L. and Elnora (Painter) Melody. She graduated from Riverdale High School in 1958. She attended Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Moline and became a registered nurse in 1961. She also did advanced training in nursing at Cook County Hospital in pediatrics and at Jacksonville, IL in psychology. Her marriage to Elwin “Jiggs” Braman took place on October 15, 1961 in Moline.


Karen had worked as a nurse at Lutheran Hospital in Moline and then at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo and Our Savior Lutheran Church, Zephyrhills, FL and the LWML of both churches. She was a former member of DAR, Geneseo. Her children dubbed her the sole proprietor of Karen’s Krappy Krafts. She enjoyed quilting, genealogy, making greeting cards, gardening and canning, ceramics, wool spinning and caning. Karen had helped build churches for Laborers for Christ.


Survivors include her husband, Elwin “Jiggs”Braman; three children, Melody (Brad) Watters, Geneseo, Amy Braman, Ocala, FL and George Braman, Austin, TX; two grandchildren, Rachel Pfriender and Samantha Watters; her mother, Elnora Melody, Geneseo and sister Cindy (Allen) Knott, Port Byron. She was preceded in death by her father, brother, Lee Melody and an infant sister.
