Julia Joan Thompson, 96, of Sheffield died Monday, February 22, 2010 at Aspen Rehab and Health Care, Silvis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 5th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield with visitation one hour prior to services. Father Jerry Logan will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee, IL. Memorials may be made to the Sheffield Rescue Unit.

Julia Joan Wetch was born August 5, 1913, in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Kuskis) Wetch. She was reared and educated in Kewanee and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1931. She married Carl O. Thompson on May 30, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Church in Kewanee, IL. He died on November 18, 1980. Julia worked for many years at IL Commercial Telephone Company and IL Power Company in Kewanee. She also worked a few years in Kewanee High School office and Kraft Cheese in Manlius.

Julia was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield, and their church circles. She was an active member of the Kewanee YMCA, and during the war years, was the director of the women’s programs. Julia was also a member of the “Y” board. She was an avid sports enthusiast in bowling, golf, baseball, and the “Y” sports. She loved the Chicago Cubs and Bears.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Hill, Rock Island; many nieces and nephews including Kathy Lewellen, Moline, and Sharon Sizemore, East Moline, IL; a special great niece, Teresa Colwell, Moline; and other great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Joseph Wetch; and three sisters, Berniece Jennings, Ann Wetch, and Magdalene Wetch.
