John "Jack" Winefordner

Bettendorf, Iowa

John “Jack” A. Winefordner, 85, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Geneseo and Cambridge, died Thursday, November 21, 2019, at his home.  Private memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, at the Geneseo Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services at 225 E. Park Street.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Kings Harvest Pet Rescue.

John was born December 28, 1933, in Geneseo, IL, the son of Carl D. and Marjorie (Brown) Winefordner.  He graduated from Geneseo High School and attended the University of Illinois and Augustana College.  He was united in marriage to Judith Whitney on July 15, 1956, in Galva, IL.  She preceded him in death on June 19, 1981.  He then married Tonia “Tina” M. Fullerton on June 11, 1983 in Las Vegas, NV.  John served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War from 1956 to 1958.  He was the owner of Cambridge Grain Elevator, the Illinois Contractors, and M&W Contractors.  John was a member of Valley View Club, Cambridge, and he enjoyed golf, woodworking, and travel.

Those surviving are his wife, Tonia “Tina”; sons, Mark Winefordner, Peoria, and Jay Winefordner, Cambridge; step-sons, Michael (Michele) Stablein, Rock Island, and Joseph (Diane) Stablein, Chicago; grandchildren, Nicholas Stablein, Channahon, Mary Stablein, Channahon, Colleen Stablein, Davenport, IA, and Conner Stablein, Rock Island.  Other survivors include a brother, James (Laura) Winefordner, Gainesville, FL, mother-in-law, Pauline Ryner, Galesburg, sisters-in-law, Diane (Mark) Reynolds, Peoria, and Robin (Russell) Koerner, Galesburg, brothers-in-law, Richard Wales (Lorrel), Van Nuys, CA, and David Ryner, Peoria, numerous nieces and nephews, and his little companion dog, Cookie.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his daughter-in-law, Vicki, and his father-in-law, Dean C. Ryner.
