John Conrad

March 10, 1942 — January 11, 2017

John A. Conrad, 74, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.  Cremation has been accorded and a memorial visitation will be held Friday, January 27th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

John Allen Conrad was born March 10, 1942 in Geneseo, the son of William O. and Lillian M. Hulting Conrad.  He was educated in Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1960.  He attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.  John served in the U.S. Army Reserves.  His marriage to Annette Weborg took place on August 20, 1964 in Park Falls, Wisconsin.  They later divorced.

Across his years and his travels, John worked as an auto parts manager, a policeman, a realtor, and an over-the-road truck owner/operator.  In the early 80s, John ventured Southwest, settling in California where he met his longtime companion, Debbie Woods.  Although living far from Henry County, John returned like clockwork each spring to plant the crop and once in the fall to bring in the harvest.  Regardless of his breadth of professional experience, whenever asked of his profession, John's answer was consistently "farmer".

John was a dapper man with a variety of interests: flying, cars, motorcycles, cards, and the ladies.  Most of all, John took pride in his deep farming roots and his connection to the land.  In the early 1990s, John returned to live in Cambridge fulltime and has since been seen making daily rounds throughout Henry County on his cherished Spyder motorcycle.

John is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian and Heather Conrad, Marshfield, Wisconsin, and Brett Conrad, San Diego, California, a granddaughter, Ava Conrad, Marshfield, Wisconsin.  John is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law: Wayne O. and Frances Conrad, Dean W. and Doris Conrad, all of Cambridge, and Dale E. and Ruth Conrad, Longmont, Colorado.  His parents and longtime partner, Deborah Woods, preceded him in death.
