Joan Ellmaker

Joan L. Ellmaker, 86, of rural Colona died on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16th at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, 225 E. Park St., Geneseo.  Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Joan Ellmaker Memorial Fund

Joan Shoff was born August 31, 1929 in Peoria, IL the daughter of William Harold and Margaret Imogene (Odgen) Shoff.  Joan was raised and educated in Peoria, IL and graduated from Peoria Manual High School in 1947.  Prior to her marriage, Joan was employed at Bagley Brothers Insurance Agency in Peoria.  On September 3, 1949, she married Glenn Ellmaker in Peoria.  He passed away on August 22, 2002.  The family resided in Sterling, Illinois until moving to Wolf Road in 1961.  During her Sterling years, Joan was active in Emerald Hill Country Club, and her children’s activities.  She was of the Methodist faith.

Joan greatly enjoyed working with and owning racehorses at the Quad City Downs during the 1980’s.  Other interests included music and travel.  Vacation destinations included 48 states and several foreign countries.

Survivors include daughter, Connie Hiatt, Atkinson, IL, and son, David Ellmaker (Jackie Killeen), Colona, IL.  Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Charles Cook, Peoria; one grandchild, Rick Hiatt; and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Glenn; son, William; sister, Donna Shoff; and son-in-law, Richard D. Hiatt.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hope Creek for all of their kindness and compassion during her final months.
