Jim Nelson, 70, of Hooppole, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 30th at the Annawan Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Hooppole Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jim Nelson Memorial Fund. Jim was born April 1, 1943 in Geneseo, the son of James E. and Leora Isabel (Brown) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Janice Benkitis on August 16, 1984 in Hooppole, IL. She survives. He retired from Case IH, East Moline after 30 years. He also farmed in the Hooppole area. Jim was a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed tractors, hunting, gardening, garage sales, dogs, playing guitar, tinkering, and motorcycles. He especially loved his family and helping young people.
Those surviving are his wife, Janice; his children, Rick (Robin) Nelson, Mary Marchand, Rod Nelson, Joseph (Tina) Nelson, Jody (Jeff) Alls, and Jonathan (Kathryn) Nelson; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
