Jerelyn Payne

June 23, 1931 — August 24, 2016

Jerelyn A. “Jere” Payne, 85, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 29th, at the Cambridge Baptist Church.  Rev. Todd Smith and Rev. Larry Chasey will officiate.  Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services.  Memorials may be made to the Jerelyn Payne Memorial Fund

Jerelyn Ann Reed was born June 23, 1931 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Cyril and Vivian Fesler Reed.  She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948 and briefly attended college for nurse’s training.  Her marriage to Ellis “Al” Payne took place on July 23, 1960 in Las Vegas, NV.

She was employed at the People’s Bank of Cambridge for many years, and later worked in the office of the Henry County Clerk and Recorder from 1974 until 1990.  Jere served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Henry County Fair Association from 1974 until 1981.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Cambridge, where she served on many committees and held numerous leadership positions.

Those surviving are her husband, Al, a daughter, Marcia VanDeRostyne, Geneseo, a son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Andrea Payne, Metamora, IL, and three grandchildren, Mariah VanDeRostyne, East Moline, and Brian and Eric Payne, Metamora.  Her parents preceded her in death.
